Wehrfritz "Fenster zur Welt" — AI Learning System 2026
Wehrfritz · AI Consulting & Software · October 2025 – ongoing
A World Premiere in Early Childhood Education
Wehrfritz, one of Germany's most recognized manufacturers of kindergarten equipment, set out to build the world's first AI-based learning system for early childhood education — a world premiere on the German market. DeViLink shaped the AI strategy, co-designed the software architecture, and provided rapid staffing with DeViLink developers when a new feature set was needed mid-project.
About Wehrfritz
Wehrfritz is one of Germany's leading brands for kindergarten and educational equipment — trusted for decades for high-quality pedagogical materials used in Kitas, nurseries, and primary schools across Europe. As part of the Habermaass family of companies, Wehrfritz combines traditional craftsmanship with modern educational concepts.
With Fenster zur Welt®, Wehrfritz enters entirely new territory: the world's first AI-based interactive learning system designed specifically for kindergartens and early childhood education settings. DeViLink Consulting was involved from day one as AI consultant and development partner.
The Product: What is Fenster zur Welt®?
Fenster zur Welt® (Window to the World) is an innovative AI learning system by Wehrfritz for children aged 3 and up — developed in close collaboration with Prof. Dr. Wassilios E. Fthenakis, one of the world's leading experts in early childhood education.
The concept is disarmingly simple: children place any object into the device. An AI-powered object recognition system identifies it and immediately begins an interactive, age-appropriate dialogue — entirely through audio, with no screen and no microphone. This was a deliberate design choice: privacy and child safety are the top priority.
Place an apple, a toy car, or a seashell into the device, and it explains in a playful way where it comes from, what makes it special, and how it connects to the world — all pedagogically grounded, safe, and without sending sensitive data over the internet. A companion app lets educators unlock content, review session histories, and control usage.
Why This Product Is Unique
AI Object Recognition
Any physical object placed in the device is recognized by AI, triggering a contextually relevant, child-friendly dialogue — no reading or typing required.
Privacy by Design
No screen. No microphone. No sensitive data transmitted online. A deliberate architectural decision to ensure maximum data protection in kindergartens.
Scientifically Grounded
Co-developed with Prof. Dr. Wassilios E. Fthenakis — one of the world's leading early childhood education researchers. Every interaction meets current pedagogical standards.
Our Role: Five Phases
Wehrfritz had a strong internal team — but no prior experience with AI product development. That's where we came in: not as a simple outsourcing vendor writing code, but as a strategic partner throughout the entire development process.
AI Strategy & Consulting
We analyzed the market, evaluated available AI models, and helped Wehrfritz make the right technology decisions — from model selection to prompt engineering strategy. Which models reliably generate child-appropriate content? What AI risks need to be planned for from the start? How should object recognition be structured for real-world kindergarten use?
Software Architecture
Together with Wehrfritz's internal engineers, we designed the technical architecture of the entire system. Our experience scaling My Little Stories — our own AI product that reached over 100,000 users — directly informed the architectural decisions and helped us avoid common AI scaling pitfalls.
Developer Enablement
Our goal was not to create dependency on us. We worked alongside Wehrfritz's internal developers to make them independently capable with AI — through code reviews, pair programming sessions, and hands-on guidance on common AI challenges and edge cases.
QA & AI Testing
For a children's product, AI outputs require particularly rigorous testing. Our QA engineer systematically analyzed object recognition results, stress-tested edge cases, and verified that the system reliably handles inappropriate or dangerous objects with age-appropriate safety responses.
Rapid Staffing: The Teacher App
Mid-project, it became clear the system needed a dedicated app for educators and parents. What wasn't originally scoped had to be built quickly and cost-efficiently — exactly what our DeViLink team is built for.
The Mid-Project Pivot: Teacher App in 6 Weeks
In December 2025 — mid-development — it became clear the system needed a dedicated app for educators and parents to unlock content, view session histories, and control the device. A requirement that significantly expanded the project scope, with a hard deadline: ready for the Didacta trade fair in March 2026.
The Problem
- ✗Wehrfritz's internal team was at full capacity
- ✗German agencies: weeks to get started, high rates
- ✗Hard deadline: Didacta fair, March 10, 2026
Our Solution
- ✓React Native developer from DeViLink: ready the next day
- ✓QA engineer: available within 24 hours
- ✓React Native app (web-first, now iOS/Android): delivered in 6 weeks
Teacher App Cost Comparison
70% cost reduction — same quality, faster availability
World Premiere at Didacta 2026 in Cologne
On March 10, 2026, Fenster zur Welt® was presented to the public at Didacta in Cologne — the world's largest education trade fair. A genuine world premiere in early childhood education. The product is expected to launch commercially in Q3/Q4 2026.

What This Means for Your Project
Fenster zur Welt demonstrates what's possible when experienced AI consulting and a flexible DeViLink development team work together: complex AI products ship faster, cost less, and benefit from strategic depth that pure dev shops can't provide.
We know AI pitfalls from building our own products and client projects alike. No theory — real decisions made under real constraints.
When your project grows or pivots, you need the right people immediately. We provide developers and QA engineers within 24 hours — not weeks.
70% savings — without compromising quality or speed. This isn't the exception. This is our standard model.
